Phew what a week! Careers events are coming in thick and fast now (oh and there might have been a little something on the news about a new coalition government as well!)
I’m sure you will have pencilled the dates in your diary, but as you will appreciate there is some planning and preparation involved to help you get something meaningful out of the careers fairs, other then the freebies.
You may feel sidelined by careers fairs and will naturally be drawn to PhD Futures or Pathways however the careers fairs can be of value to you too.
Careers fairs bring together local, national and international employers under one roof. Attending a fair is a great way to network with employers on a 1-2-1 basis.
Knowing how to source opportunities will allow you to make informed decisions about careers outside of academia, offer you an insight into employer views of PhDs and researchers and allow you think laterally about careers linked to your interest or specialism.
To this end, we are running two workshops entitled ‘Beat the competition: Making careers fairs work for you!’ to help you prepare for the Manchester summer careers fairs on the 16th & 17th June as well as the PhD events.
Why not come along to either one of the interactive workshops to find out more including:
- Do’s & Don’ts: etiquette at careers fairs
- How to market your skills effectively to employers
- Researching employers
- Asking the right questions, knowing the right answers
- How to plan, prepare and perform for success!
You can come in to either session on Tuesday 8th June or Thursday 10th June, 10.00am – 11.30am at University House. Go to our careers website to register as places are limited so don’t miss out!
