Summer Careers Fairs in Manchester:PhD Zone

by Tahira Majothi on May 6, 2010

It’s that time of year again! This year’s summer careers fairs will be taking place in Manchester on the 16th & 17th June.

Once again there will a dedicated careers zone for PhD graduates on Wednesday 16th June allowing you the opportunity to meet with a choice number of employers with prior experience of recruiting and working with PhDs.

My colleague Fiona posted a blog last year with details of the employers who were in the PhD Zone, it might be timely to revisit her blog for a review of last year’s event

If you would like to know more about how PhDs and researchers are viewed by employers, the types of opportunities available, the most sought after skills they require, the types of roles PhDs and researchers play within organisations and the career outlook for PhDs and researchers in the future then visit the Careers Fair.

Help will also be on hand over the two days from Careers Consultants experienced in advising PhDs and researchers on how to effectively pitch your skills to an employer.

In addition Manchester University’s Careers & Employability Service has published this year’s full list of exhibitors making it easier for you to research the employers beforehand so that you are aware of the sorts of opportunities that exist for Graduates and PhDs. You should factor in some time to meet with the general graduate employers present in the main areas as well as the PhD Zone to research career options.

On a final note Salford Careers & Employability Service will be running two workshops for Salford final year students, graduates, researchers and PhDs in the run up to the careers fairs to help you better prepare. These will be run on the 8th and 10th June respectively. The workshops are entitled ‘Beat the Competition: Making careers fairs work for you!  You are welcome to attend either session so keep an eye out for all the upcoming details on our events page.
