Getting a job at Media City

by Fiona Christie on March 4, 2011

The rumours are that there will be up to 500 new positions available at Media City. But if you want to be in with a fighting chance of getting one you have to be looking in the right places. This means being proactive. And if you are someone who is not keen on using social media – you better take a deep breath and get started as the media industries are very active in the social media world!

What you can do now? Six ideas in no particular order…

  1. Understand the background of Media City – Wikipedia can help here as it already has a page with key information.
  2. Watch the MediaCityUK official website for vacancies at MediaCityUK (other companies resident will advertise on their respective websites only).
  3. Join Linkedin (if you aren’t a member already) and join the Media City group there . Watch for relevant posts on this group.
  4. Join Twitter and follow Craig Campbell’s Media jobs list (Craig is a staff member at Salford University’s School of  Media, Music and Perfomance).!/list/flappg/media-jobs.
  5. Follow the Media club on Manchester University’s Careers site . This includes some useful hints and tips for putting a media CV together.
  6. Upload your CV (and other supporting career documents) to the BBC North website. Once your CV is approved, you will have to complete the 1-2 hour online assessment.
