Postgraduate Futures 2011: One week to go!!

by Tahira Majothi on June 13, 2011

Well now, the countdown to this year’s annual one-day Careers Conference: Postgraduate Futures has truly begun. Whilst we cannot guarantee that the weather will be as sunny and warm as last year (seriously what is up with that?!) it is fair to say that we are beyond excited and looking forward to seeing you all next Tuesday.

This is a relatively short blog post focusing on updates, for full details on why we have chosen to focus on Career Management in the digital age, please see my earlier post.

I would like to use this opportunity to draw your attention to our updated Programme. Here comes the housekeeping bit, if you have registered via the Salford Postgraduate Research Training (SPoRT) programme, please also visit the Careers and Employability website to sign up for the panel sessions and workshops.

Speaking of sign-ups, if you have already registered via the SPoRT website or via our Careers workshop page, please remember that you are also required to register for and attend the welcome address at 9.30am and the opening panel session ‘Career Management in the Digital Age’ at 10.00am to fully appreciate the context of the day. In these sessions, we will explore the rise of social media in relation to your studies/career and what the future might hold for you.

If you are still unsure of which workshops to sign-up for, please take a look at our workshop descriptions here.

I do not really need to tell you that you can only get out of an event what you put in. So to help you prepare, you could for example, research the guest speakers, try to prepare questions on social media and digital technologies and how they may inform your research, speak to the employer panel about the advantages of recruiting postgraduates as well as creative job seeking tips and recruitment processes and consider what the Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF) could mean for you.

Finally taking participation one step further, I wholeheartedly encourage you to enter our Pecha Kucha © competition. You can read about what a Pecha Kucha is here and how best to prepare a presentation here. There will be a prize awarded to the best presentation and all entries MUST be submitted to us by Monday 20th June 12.00pm at futures@salford.ac.uk
